From March 2020 onwards there are substantial savings to be made on Royal Mail postage bills by using a Royal Mail licensed franking machine.
The ‘franked mark’ displays the carrier, the postage date, the cost, the machine licence number and its unique Mail-Mark QR code (each mail piece is tracked by this code).
The end section or ‘C block’ displays the class (1=first 2=second A=international) and the size of the mail-piece (Letter, Large Letter, Small Parcel, Medium Parcel).
- The cost for a Royal Mail second class stamp (<100g) is 65p.
- Franking machines reduce this cost to 43p pence saving 22p per envelope or 34%.
- For mail runs > 250 items volume related discounts (VRD) apply reducing the cost to 34p saving 31p per envelope or 48%.
